Fairy Ethnic Groups (occasionally updated) Empty Fairy Ethnic Groups (occasionally updated)

Post by Majestic_12 Mon May 25, 2009 1:40 pm

This thread is about the ethnic groups of fairies seen so far in the story.

Liroc - these are the generic fairies, what humans would call mutts. They are by far the most common and most unpredictable type of fairies, capable of showing traits of almost any particular group. Highly versatile, they are capable of overcoming the limitations of any particular ethnicity in their blood. For instance, a carnivore of theLiroc ethnicity who has strong Arari genetic influence would be able to swallow live prey and control and mitigate the psychic damage from the empathic terror feedback that they receive from their prey during digestion, but they can still use their exceptional sneak attack skills and their ability to lull their prey into a state of calm before consuming them. Lirocs obviously can be carnivores or exo-symbiotes.

Known Liroc fairies:

  1. Kienna Lauacateine (exo-symbiote)
  2. Narissa Elasurhea (carnivorous; turned exo-symbiotic)
  3. Rihanna (carnivorous)

Droathas - also known as the "silver hair" fairy. Both carnivorous and exo-symbiotic types exist in this group. They are known for their silvery hair and unusual beauty, even for fairies. They're excellent fighters, almost rivaling human martial artists, and they're quite aggressive.
The Droathas group also includes emerald red haired subtypes, most commonly the result of mixing with the gothic-looking Nosharti.
Droathas are terrifying carnivores; most fairies would avoid prey who have put up defenses to kill fairies, but Droathas are among the ones the other groups call in to challenge them.

Known Droathas fairies:

  1. Gilena/Roshana (technically carnivorous, but turns exo-symbiotic)

Arari - these are often called "Sunflower fairies" by humans due to their vibrant blonde, indeed outright yellow hair. The Arari can be carnivorous or exo-symbiotic. Carnivores are dreaded for their ability to charm anyone they come into contact with, using a combination of pheromones, social skills, and magic. The Arari developed this ability to overcome a genetic flaw - namely if they swallow prey alive and awake, the prey's agony, terror and suffering is conveyed back to the Arari predator's mind as it is with all carnivorous fairies (all fairies face the effect of empathic feedback when they're absorbing the thoughts of the prey they consume), but in the case of the Arari, s/he cannot handle it. The agony of their prey being digested can, in some cases, cause his/her heart to go into cardiac arrest. It can burn their mind and leave them with a debilitating case of post traumatic stress, and this is with lower animals. Sentient prey can kill an Arari in the case of a critical feedback, or in the case of debilitating empathic feedback, it will drive her into a catatonic or suicidal state of extreme guilt and dreadful self-hate.
Arari exo-symbiotes take good care to calm their prey as well. The terror some human/elf/fairy experience in being fed to her womb against their will, affects her just as badly, although her prey does not suffer or endure agony since exo-symbiosis envelops them in total pleasure and results in their soul being put in a fresh, stronger body. Taking a prey unwillingly for Gaia's Blessing does make her feel guilty. However, taking a willing prey absolutely enhances her sharing in their pleasure far more than other fairies; it goes both ways.
Arari carnivores and exo-symbiotes alike are excellent dancers and singers, and are well known for their skills in love-making; female Arari are well known for their promiscuity with women. It comes from their weaker fighting ability and their need to give themselves over to stronger types, typically the Rikati, Nivalavi or Dalassi, to make them want to defend the Arari and help them find food. In the case of Arari exo-symbiotes, females are the most sought out partners for girl pacts, due to their superior ability to seduce males. Even an alpha (the dominant female in a girl-pact) will often let the Arari get pregnant first out of respect for her ability to find them a mate. Arari males, of course, are the ones that women fight over.
For role-playing purposes, if your Arari character swallows a prey that's awake, roll a single 20 sided die - if you roll 10 or higher for an animal or 5 or higher for any sentient prey, s/he suffers debilitating empathic feedback; then you must roll again for a critical - 18 or higher means critical feedback)

Known Arari fairies:

  1. Salkani (carnivorous)
  2. Henna (carnivorous)
  3. Hollani (carnivorous, affected by empathic terror-feedback; turns exo-symbiotic)

Rikati - these are also called "drow" fairies, because of their coal gray skin and red (or blue) eyes. The color of their eyes is the easiest way to tell if they are carnivorous or exo-symbiotic. Red eyes means immediate, grave danger, and blue eyes means she will probably come after you, come hell or high water, to feed you to her womb. Siluvaran Rikati find it quite hard to control their unbirthing instinct.
Rikati carnivores, on the other hand, are by far the most implacable predators of all fairy types. They will devour living things until they are absolutely full, or capture them to be eaten by others. They don't stop to negotiate, they attack on sight, and are the best by far at finding prey. Their soul vision is stronger and longer-range than anyone, and is on par with the Dalassi and Nivalavi.
Rikati fairies, both carnivorous and exo-symbiotic, are astoundingly adept fighters, capable of uncanny speed and strength. Droathas shock troops and special fighting forces match with normal, combat-trained Rikati soldiers. Rikati over 100 years old tend to achieve special forces status, and aside from the Dalassi and Nivalavi. Rikati shock troops even harass the Joint Earth Defense Initiative Colonial Marine Corps and go toe to toe with the devastating firepower that the Marines bring when they're actually out hunting fairies. Rikati are uncommon, but once encountered, they are never forgotten. Rikati fairies are also more powerful spellcasters than most other types. They're hot tempered in battle, and won't think twice about cutting an enemy down or vaporizing them with spells or energy weapons. Rikati will crush a human to send a message to others; and likewise, humans tend to attempt to massacre Rikati tribal settlements on sight.
Rikati carnivores are the least affected by the empathic feedback that they receive from swallowing their prey. Very few even notice the agony and suffering of their prey as they're absorbing their memories and knowledge during digestion. Only when they're caught by surprise (say, swallowing a fish whose belly, unbeknownst to her, is full of live humans), is she remotely moved. Even the suffering of several prey at once doesn't startle a Rikati.
Rikati exo-symbiotes in the Siluvaran military tend to ascend to the status of Royal Guard - there is no remaining a soldier of the line for the hot-blooded Rikati.

Known Rikati Fairies:

  1. Delucina (carnivorous)

Nivalavi - also known as the "Bollar fairy" or, among humans, the African fairy, these chocolate-skinned fairies that perfectly resemble African/African-Americans or the aliens of Bollar Freehold, are known primarily for three things: 1) their awe-inspiring magic and fighting skills; 2) their burning hatred for carnivorous fairies, especially the Rikati; and most incredibly, 3) the fact that not one carnivorous Nivalavi has ever been observed, anywhere, at any time. All known Nivalavi are exo-symbiotes.
Nivalavi fairies have a fairly two-sided personality: in social settings and as new military recruits, they are happy to be submissive, taking second fiddle to others. Even the Arari cannot match a Nivalavi's (or Dalassi's) ability to arouse and make love to fellow members of her girl-pact, or their shared male mate. Nivalavi fairies, however, are not as promiscuous as the Arari are; they are quite conservative to those outside their pact, or outside their mate-group. However, in a crisis, such as a battle or a disaster, the Nivalavi show their other side: their A-type, alpha female personality. Being naturally quicker thinkers than most fairies and humans alike, Nivalavi males and females will quickly take control of a desperate situation with a higher chance of success.
Nivalavi in the wild (not in Siluvaran territory) are relentles hunters of carnivorous fairies. They will storm an entire camp and wipe out the adults - all of them - and either leave the children behind or take some to raise and cleanse of their carnivorous nature. They aren't sneaky like their Dalassi counterparts - Nivalavi warriors charge into battle, and woe betide any force that is tasked with standing against them. A good sign of a Nivalavi attack include many crushed or decapitated heads, and blood and guts everywhere. The Nivalavi are utterly merciless in their dealings with carnivorous fairies.
The Dalassi/Nivalavi and the Rikati harbor a dire hatred for each other - except for when both are exo-symbiotes, wherein which rivalries still lead to serious fights. In Siluvaran society, however, exo-symbiotic Rikati and the Dalassi/Nivalavi will forget all sense of dislike for each other after 1-2 generations of being away from the wild. A massed force of Dalassi/Nivalavi and Rikati Siluvaran troops causes an automatic panic response among Grue Combine forces and chaos and confusion are 90% likely.

Known Nivalavi Fairies:

  1. Ocella
  2. Inessa

Fairy Ethnic Groups (occasionally updated) Empty Re: Fairy Ethnic Groups (occasionally updated)

Dalassi - this group actually breaks up into several virtual subgroups. It is thought that they originally came from Arari who turned exo-symbiotic. Humans discovered that when a Dalassi's blue hair highlights are processed by invert-coloring, the highlights turn vibrant yellow, like a sunflower. And at least one parent is also usually an Arari exo-symbiote. A Dalassi is also known to have wings with a tie-dye color scheme. The other way to produce a Dalassi, apparently, is to mate any fairy with a non-African heritage human. The end result is all the same - a fair skinned fairy with tie dye wings, and usually jet black silky hair with blue highlights. And, in all known cases, an exo-symbiote. Meaning, essentially, that any fairy with tie-dye color schemed wings is never a carnivore - at least, none have ever been seen. Dalassi are a lot like the Nivalavi in their hatred for carnivores, especially Rikati carnivores, and for their fierce rivalries with Rikati exo-symbiotes. Normally, though, they are thoughtful, sensual, empathetic, and highly intelligent, like the Nivalavi. It is not uncommon for a wild Nivalavi tribe to be headed by a Dalassi wise woman or male chieftain, or vice-versa. Some Dalassi show Nivalavi behavioral traits, and vice-versa, depending on which tribe they're raised in; for instance, some Dalassi attack their enemy head-on, while some Nivalavi are good sneak attackers.
Dalassi are also good at dancing and singing, like the Arari, but moreso, in that they can mesmerize people with their voice. A Dalassi woman's song can, by itself, rouse her people to war, or to fight with greater motivation and purpose. Nivalavi fairies can learn this ability as well, but primarily it is a Dalassi trait.
Dalassi show strong Arari traits in that they are known to sneak up on the enemy; and they show traits similar to the Nivalavi in that they're brutal in combat, and they are astoundingly fast and strong. Dalassi and Nivalavi routinely have fake rivalries and frequent combat challenges occur between them which are resolved quite formally, in arenas. Dalassi and Nivalavi warriors fight viciously in the combat pit, and then when their wounds are healed, the winner always has dinner with the vanquished and shares his/her winning techniques: such is the way they edify one another.
Like the Nivalavi, the Dalassi are aggressive exo-symbiotes in the wild. When they see humans, elves or fairies, they don't waste time arguing or negotiating - their prey goes right into their womb, most commonly to provide them not just magic energy but also insight into their prey's knowledge and thoughts. Dalassi and Nivalavi tribes mix a lot, producing a lot of, for instance, chocolate skinned fairies with silky hair and tie-dye wings.

The Dalassi virtual subgroups mentioned above include the Dalassi-Nivalavi mix, as well as several unique blends that point back partial and very recent human ancestry - the almond eyed Dalassi, who can always be traced back to one Asian human parent, and other influences including Hispanic, East Indian, etc. This is highly important because, for instance, if you are confronted by almond-eyed fairy giantess, you can rest assured that the worst she'll do is feed you to her womb and give you a new body to reside in: no almond-eyed fairy carnivore has ever been confirmed to exist.

Dalassi and Nivalavi fairies are known as the perma-blue ethnicities, because neither have been known to have produced a carnivorous type, and all are proven to be immune to the bloodvine.

Fairy Ethnic Groups (occasionally updated) Empty Re: Fairy Ethnic Groups (occasionally updated)

Post by Majestic_12 Mon Jun 01, 2009 10:29 am

More information regarding Nivalavi and halfbreed-Dalassi fairies:

Both groups are very new among the fairy species. The Nivalavi are the older ethnic group, dating back over 500 years to the Siluvarans' war with the human-offshoot Ke'yeppan people, who came to be known as the Bollar Empire, and now the Bollar Freehold.

The Ke'yeppans, who named their species the Bollars after the two Bollar family brothers who led them to victory against the invading Grue Combine, are highly similar to Africans on Earth, and their heritage passes onto the children of the fairies they mate with.

Some of the first generation of Nivalavi were in fact Bollar citizens snatched by the ruling-class Siluvaran Matrons who invaded one particular Bollar colony, unbirthed the entire adult human populace, and transformed them into fairies in their wombs. No other colonies were invaded, however, as the Siluvaran Royal Guard rebelled against their Matron masters and killed all of the ones involved in the invasion, as well as their supporters.

Regardless, war broke out between the Bollars and the Siluvarans. Eventually, the Bollars built Planet Killers to annihilate the Grue and the Siluvarans, but upon the creation of a Sun Killer, the Bollar Empire fell into civil war. The Empire then broke into the Bollar Freeholds - a collection of clans, each formed to protect its own Planet Killer weapon.

The Freeholds, as one would expect, had a lot of incidents of their humans meeting and mating with Siluvarans, and even carnivorous Silurhean fairies. Pregnancies that came of these encounters always resulted in a Nivalavi fairy child.

And so their numbers grew.

The halfbreed Dalassi, on the other hand, have only been seen for about a hundred years - dating back to a handful of Siluvaran women who came to Earth in the 24th century and mated with humans there. No halfbreed Dalassi, thus, is over a hundred years old; there are only three generations of halfbreed Dalassi. They are very hard to tell from the children of Arari exo-symbiotes.

Nivalavi and Dalassi fairies are near and dear to many of even the most hostile Bollar Freehold armies. The official policy of the Bollar people is to annihilate fairies on sight; however, once identified, the Nivalavi and Dalassi are subjected to an unofficial "catch and relocate" policy. If they are found on a fairy world targeted to be reduced to a lifeless desert, they're moved to another world first, or the planet is simply written off.

Brutally hunting down and annihilating Nivalavi or Dalassi fairies is officially standard procedure, but Freehold leaders are loathe to enforce it, for fear of being assassinated.

Bollars, while hateful toward other fairy groups, are quite fond of the company of half-breed Dalassi or Nivalavi fairies. Many Nivalavi fairies are in fact humans who had been turned into fairies by the Matron invasion 500 years ago. Nivalavi Matrons are especially well liked for their eagerness to change these victims back to humans - this has caused a halo effect for the entire Nivalavi ethnic group, and for the Dalassi as well, as they're expected to develop the same abilities when their first Matrons finally appear. Plus, Dalassi are, like the Nivalavi, very friendly and appreciative of the uniqueness of humanity.

It is well understood that if the Siluvarans ever attack the Bollars again, they will face terrifying retribution from the Dalassi and Nivalavi, who have sent fairies into the Siluvaran military to very openly monitor their activities and provide a constant, clear and present deterrent.

Even a mild mannered fairy like Ocella is sworn to turn on her fellow Siluvaran troops if they embark on a crusade against the Bollars...
